When Damyanti become of marriageable age, ( जब दमयन्ती विवाहयोग्य उम्र की हुई ) her father thought about her marriage . ( उसके पिता ने उसके विवाह की सोचा । । ) The king arranged a Swayamvar. ( राजा ने एक स्वयंवर रचा । )

In It the king and emperson from every nook and corner of the country were invited.( उसमें देश के कोने – कोने से राजे – महाराजे आमन्त्रित किये गये । ) On the day of Swayamvar , The areas nearby the palace began to be crowded with royal chariots. ( स्वयंवर वाले दिन , महल के आस – पास के क्षेत्र शाही रथों से भरने लगा । )

The whole area began to resound with the trumpeting of elephants and neighing of horses. ( सारा क्षेत्र हाथियों की चिंघाड़ और घोड़ों की हिनहिनाहट से गूँज उठा । )All the kings and princes began to come in the Swayamvar ( सभी राजा और राजकुमार स्वयंवर में आने लगे ) and occupy their seats.( और अपना स्थान ग्रहण करने लगे । )

In the meantime Damyanti arrived. ( इतने में दमयन्ती स्वयंवर में आयी । ) She had a garland of fresh rose in her hands.( उसके हाथ में ताजे गुलाब के फूलों की माला थी । ) She began to pass in front of all the kings and princes one by one. ( वह एक – एक करके सभी राजा और राजकुमारों के पास से आगे बढ़ती गयी । ) she was searching for Nala who had come there in disguise.( उसकी आंखे नल को तलाश रही थीं जो भेष बदल कर आया था । )

She recognised Nala and put the garland around his neck.( उसने नल को पहचान लिया और उसके गले में माला डाल दी । ) She selected him as her husband. ( उसने उसे अपना वर चुन लिया । )

भारतवर्ष में बहुत से आदमी शारीरिक परिश्रम करने में अपना अपमान समझते हैं । ( In India many people take it as an insult to do manual labour.) परिश्रम के काम से तुरन्त मुख मोड़ लेते हैं । ( They at once divert themselves from laborious work.) अतः अन्न तथा वस्र का प्रश्न बड़ा जटिल हो गया है । ( So the question of food grains and clothes has become too complicated .)

ऐसे लोग जाति और उत्तम वंश के झूठे अभिमान में पड़कर ( Such people, having a false sense of pride and high family status ), धीरे-धीरे अत्यन्त दीन दशा को प्राप्त होते जा रहे हैं । ( are sinking slowly into the destitute life.) बहुत से ऐसे लोग दूसरों के सहारे जीवन व्यतीत करते हैं । ( Such people lead their lives with the support of others. ) कोई-कोई तो भीख तक माँगना पसन्द करते हैं,( Some prefer even to beg ) परन्तु परिश्रम से जीविका नहीं चलाना चाहते हैं । ( but don’t like to earn their livelihood by working hard.)

शारीरिक परिश्रम नहीं करने से स्वास्थ्य बिगड़ जाता है ( Without doing physical labour health is spoiled and ), जीवन भार स्वरुप हो जाता है । ( the life becomes a burden.) तब उनकी आँख खुलती है ( It is then that they wake up ) और अफसोस करते हैं । ( and repent.)

एक सैनिक अधिकारी अपनी नव-विवाहिता के साथ समुद्री यात्रा कर रहा था । ( A military officer was on a voyage with his newly wedded wife.) रास्ते में एक भयानक तूफान आ गया । ( On the way a fierce storm set in . )

सागर से उठने वाली लहरें आसमान छूने लगीं । ( The waves rising from the sea began to touch the sky.) प्रतीत होने लगा मानों सामने साक्षात् मौत अपना विकराल मुँह खोली खड़ी हो ।( It seemed as if Death itself were standing with her open terrible mouth . )

लेकिन सैनिक के चेहरे पर लेशमात्र भी भय का चिन्ह नहीं था । ( But there was no sign of fear on the face of the soldier. ) वह पुरी तरह स्वस्थ और निश्चिंत खड़ा रहा । ( He remained standing completely healthy and and care free. ) सब तरफ अफरातफरी मची हुई थी । ( All around there was hustle and bustle. )

सैनिक को निश्चिंत खड़ा देखकर उसकी पत्नी ने आश्चर्य से पूछा-” इस भयानक तूफान में भी तुम्हें जरा भी डर नहीं लग रहा है ? (Seeing the soldier standing carefree, his wife asked him with surprise, ” Do you not feel even a slight fear in such a terrible storm ? ” )

सैनिक ने पत्नी की ओर देखा और कहा, ” किस बात का डर ? ( The soldier looked at his wife and said, ” Fear what ? ” ) भगवान जो भी करता है वह हमारे शुभ के लिए करता है । ( God does everything for our good. ) मैं भगवान को अपना समझता हूँ इसलिए भगवान से कैसा भय ? ” ( I regard God as my own, so why should I fear him ? )
